Floyd Mayweather and Expectation Management
Yesterday I read a fine, 3-part analysis of Floyd Mayweather's boxing techniques. One of my takeaways was how managing his opponent's expectations is fundamental to his approach. Expectation management has a lot to do with the idea of being one with one's opponent, something that Bruce Lee had a lot to say about.
Expectation management is also fundamental to music - and to storytelling, indeed to any dynamic art form, and perhaps even to all art forms including relatively static ones (painting, sculpture).
Meaning comes from the satisfaction or violation of expectations.
